Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Arc

i love this shot because it's the iconic Indy shot.

you know something bad is coming...

great reveal for Marion...we don't even need to see Indy's face. The silouhette says it all...beautiful shot.

Spielberg does this in every movie where he has his character backlit in silouhette in fron of the sun. To him, light is the best symbol for "life" that he could find.

don't you feel impotent in this shot?

Minority Report

Seeing as how i've done 2 Spielberg movies, i might as well stick to them until i run out of Spielberg movies so heres a few more of my favorite shots from Minority Report. I just have to say that i love the blue palette throughout the entire film.

i love the shot below because we never really see the pre-crime cops put the head piece on the perpetrator's head. Instead, the camera stays with him while it frames around the guy as they take him out the door. The framing combined with the high pitched sound and the guy screaming "DON'T LET THEM PUT THAT THING ON ME!", leaves it up to our imaginations as to how threatening that little headpiece is.

Don't you feel the tension in this bottom shot? having the guy in the middle just makes it more awkward for the viewer because we're standing where he is standing.

Empire of the Sun

i just saw this brilliant movie for the first time the other night and just thought i'd share some of my favorite shots. Yes, it is another Spielberg movie but what can i say...the guy is a master!

Look at how intense an actor Christian Bale was even at such a young age. Those who know me, know that i hate kid actors because usually, the performance doesn't convince me. The kids aren't trained and i don't get invested in the character because i don't believe the actor as the character. But i can't say the same for Christian Bale. He acts within the eyes and it says so much without any words...just look at this screen cap below.

This shot below is more less the last shot of the movie and again, acting within the eyes! Those who have seen the movie and those who i hope will see the movie, will know what i mean when i say that these are the closing eyes of an old man. These are the eyes of a once naive child that has now seen and been through what one person would go through in a lifetime.

Christmas portrait

i havent done a portrait painting in a while so heres a new one. the pencil version was done as a christmas present for a friend and her little companion(pictured). now they come in color! hope you like it diem and poopoobear!

Spielberg rules!

i woke up this morning feeling a little under the weather so i didn't go into work. i then realized how boring it was...and then a certain someone suggested i make a Spielberg day of it, so i put in Saving Private Ryan. This is a beautifully shot movie and as i watched it, i realized something...Spielberg tends to sometimes put in multiple master shots in 1 scene, rather then always showing close ups. It does something so simple but effective...it shows the audience where the characters are in relation to each other and the setting. It can tell us who a character is talking to or what he is looking at so the audience has an easier time understanding whats goin on in the moment as well as concentrate more on the story. It also lets the audience choose who they want to look at. Anyways, i thought i'd share some of my favorite shots from the film. ENJOY!
