The cut scenes in this game were done in both Maya and 3D Studio Max. I was given this scene which ended up being the longest scene with the most characters in the game. Unfortunately, the entire thing had to be done in 3D Studio Max on the Biped Rig which is the worst rig to work with. And because the scene was so long, and the time was so short to work on it, this was my one and only scene. Please excuse the walk cycles as there was no time to do a proper one so i was told to just make the legs move. In the real version, the camera cuts out the legs. Still, it was a fun project to work on though.

David is a veteran animator that has worked at ILM on Star Wars and tons of other productions like Valkyrie, Matrix, and Wolverine. He is an awesome supervisor and a all around great guy. This was an animation test i did over 2 years ago back when i was working at Crazy Pixel Prod. It was suppose to be used as a buffer right before a tv show came back from a commercial. The tv networks' mascot was a squid, hence the robosquid. i edited the sound effects myself for fun.

i decided that its safe to post this animation test now that the company i had done this for is no longer in bussiness. this was a test to be used as a pitch for a potential tv show. this was done in about a day. i only animated the character, lighting and rendering was done by someone else. thanks for looking.

For the love of my life

this piece was done as a Valentines Day present to my girlfriend. I started this 2 months ago and it was a challenge to get it done on time without her knowing, especially since i see her everyday. one of her favorite animals is an elephant and mine is a sea otter. my gf rides motorcycles so there lies the inspiration for this piece. love you Amo!

Netherworld Art Show

a group of us at work have spent the last week doing an animation test for Sony and below is the one i did. my good buddy Dustin Kimmich used the same sound file but i'm pretty happy with how different our tests came out so hope you like it! i know there are a few bugs as far as lighting goes but for now, it'll do. go check out Dustin's test too cuz it is awesome! his link is under my friends list.

Schindler's List

i love this shot because it's the iconic Oskar Schindler(played by Liam Neeson) shot, the first time we see his face.

this shot has brilliant staging. Schindler is the one in control so he's higher up looking down on Stern. The audience is at Sterns eye level so we know how he feels. Schindler is also staged right in the path of the light from the window to make him feel that much more, "angelic" is the best word i can think of.

this shot with the girl in Red is probably the most significant point Spielberg was trying to make in the movie...the only time we see color throughout the entire film. fill in your own interpretation. i'll keep mine for myself.

you can prob guess whats behind them...

Out of respect for what the movie represents, Spielberg didn't use any film making "toys" to shoot this movie, no special zoom lens, no steady cams, no cranes. this forced him to light his scenes compositionally in the best possible way to stage some of the most beautiful shots ever on film. this is probably my favorite shot of the entire movie.

i love this shot because it's the iconic Indy shot.

you know something bad is coming...

great reveal for Marion...we don't even need to see Indy's face. The silouhette says it all...beautiful shot.

Spielberg does this in every movie where he has his character backlit in silouhette in fron of the sun. To him, light is the best symbol for "life" that he could find.

don't you feel impotent in this shot?

Minority Report

Seeing as how i've done 2 Spielberg movies, i might as well stick to them until i run out of Spielberg movies so heres a few more of my favorite shots from Minority Report. I just have to say that i love the blue palette throughout the entire film.

i love the shot below because we never really see the pre-crime cops put the head piece on the perpetrator's head. Instead, the camera stays with him while it frames around the guy as they take him out the door. The framing combined with the high pitched sound and the guy screaming "DON'T LET THEM PUT THAT THING ON ME!", leaves it up to our imaginations as to how threatening that little headpiece is.

Don't you feel the tension in this bottom shot? having the guy in the middle just makes it more awkward for the viewer because we're standing where he is standing.

Empire of the Sun

i just saw this brilliant movie for the first time the other night and just thought i'd share some of my favorite shots. Yes, it is another Spielberg movie but what can i say...the guy is a master!

Look at how intense an actor Christian Bale was even at such a young age. Those who know me, know that i hate kid actors because usually, the performance doesn't convince me. The kids aren't trained and i don't get invested in the character because i don't believe the actor as the character. But i can't say the same for Christian Bale. He acts within the eyes and it says so much without any words...just look at this screen cap below.

This shot below is more less the last shot of the movie and again, acting within the eyes! Those who have seen the movie and those who i hope will see the movie, will know what i mean when i say that these are the closing eyes of an old man. These are the eyes of a once naive child that has now seen and been through what one person would go through in a lifetime.

Spielberg rules!

i woke up this morning feeling a little under the weather so i didn't go into work. i then realized how boring it was...and then a certain someone suggested i make a Spielberg day of it, so i put in Saving Private Ryan. This is a beautifully shot movie and as i watched it, i realized something...Spielberg tends to sometimes put in multiple master shots in 1 scene, rather then always showing close ups. It does something so simple but effective...it shows the audience where the characters are in relation to each other and the setting. It can tell us who a character is talking to or what he is looking at so the audience has an easier time understanding whats goin on in the moment as well as concentrate more on the story. It also lets the audience choose who they want to look at. Anyways, i thought i'd share some of my favorite shots from the film. ENJOY!
